Anthea Lafrenière
Dr. Anthea Lafrenière completed her Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Western Ontario and pursued her medical degree (MD) at the University of Ottawa, graduating in 2016. During medical school, Anthea was involved with the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) and lead the organization as CFMS President. In this role, she served on the boards of both the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) and the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CaRMS).
In 2021, Dr. Lafrenière completed her residency training in Anatomical Pathology at the University of Ottawa. While in training, she participated in research focused on perinatal and placental pathology, pathology education for patients, and laboratory quality improvement. As President of the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO), Anthea was involved in provincial resident contract negotiations and represented residents on the Council of Ontario Faculties of Medicine (COFM) Postgraduate Education Committee. Dr. Lafrenière has been recognized for her work in medical education and leadership at the local, provincial, and national level, receiving the 2020 Canadian Medical Association Award for Young Leaders. She also served as the inaugural resident Board Director on the Ontario Association of Pathology (OAP) and received the OAP President’s Award in 2021.
Having completed her fellowship training in Pediatric Pathology at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas in Spring 2022, Dr. Lafrenière joined the Department of Pediatric Laboratory Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children.
