Funding opportunities for MD students
Dr. Daria Haust Studentship: Hospital for Sick Children
The Department of Paediatric Laboratory Medicine (DPLM) at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is pleased to offer the Dr. M. Daria Haust Studentship.
Established through an endowment at SickKids from a generous gift made by Dr. M. Daria Haust, an internationally distinguished pathologist, the studentship provides $3,300 in funding for a medical student to undertake a 10-week studentship in DPLM at SickKids. Selection is based on academic achievement and demonstrated interest in pathology, as well as the merits of the proposed research, clinical work, or academic endeavour. Preference will be given to medical students in the summer immediately after their first or second year of medical school. Expressions of interest to be submitted by March.
Application information coming soon.

Mentoring & shadowing for MD students
Shadowing for U of T medical students
An Enriching Educational Experience (EEE) is a short-term placement you organize directly with the physicians you are interested in shadowing. It enables you to gain first-hand experience in medicine, building on the foundational learning of your regular core curriculum. Enriching Educational Experiences are an important opportunity to help you explore different medical specialties, helping you to discover what you love to do.
MD students at the University of Toronto can apply for an enriching educational experience in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology.
For LMP faculty
There are many ways you can involve MD students in Laboratory Medicine and your work. Inspire the next generation!
If you have any opportunities to add to this page, please contact lmp.communications @utoronto.ca.
Have an MD student shadow you
You can indicate interest in having an MD student shadow you by completing our form. When students approach us for opportunities, we can suggest a match from our list.
This is know as Enriching Educational Experiences in the U of T MD program.
Mentor an MD student
The Temerty Faculty of Medicine has a mentorship program which matches U of T MD students with faculty members.
The aim of the program is support structurally minoritized learners in a welcoming, inclusive and safe community. MD students and first year residents who are members of minoritized and/or underrepresented groups face increased barriers to achieving their full potential as medical learners.
Applications are usually open in July each year to become a mentor.
