MD, PhD
Darren Yuen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, based at St. Michael’s Hospital. His clinical interest is in kidney transplantation, while his research focuses on the development of novel therapies for fibrosis. He is supported by salary support awards from the KRESCENT program and the Canadian Diabetes Association. He is currently supported by grants from CIHR, NSERC, the the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Banting and Best Diabetes Centre, and the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation.
Research Synopsis
My lab is interested in understanding novel mechanisms of fibrovascular injury in the kidney, using both cell and animal models of disease, with the goal of using the knowledge gained to develop innovative new therapies for kidney disease. Research projects span the spectrum from basic cell biology to clinical studies, including the investigation of cellular processes underlying fibroblast and endothelial cell behaviour, the testing of potential new treatments in animal models of disease, and the examination of structure-function relationships in patients with kidney disease.
