Each month we speak to a member of the Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology community and find out more about them.
This month it is Debb Yorke, assistant to the Department Chair, Rita Kandel, and administrative lead for LMP's Wellness Inclusion Diversity and Equity Committee (WIDE).
If you would like to be featured, or know someone who should be, use the nomination form on our Humans of LMP page.
I am the assistant to the chair and the administrative lead for Wellness Inclusion Diversity and Equity Committee.
While COVID-19 has hindered some of the wellness initiatives that we would like to move forward with, we are working on establishing protocols to ensure EDI principles are at the forefront of what we do in LMP.
I joined LMP January 2020. Before joining LMP, I was with Mount Sinai Hospital and Women’s College Hospital in Gynaecology for 16 years.
An initiative that I am most proud of was developing an OR utilization database for tracking surgeon utilization which assisted in increasing the departments overall utilization. This initiative was ultimately used to develop a surgical scorecard for the department.
The project on the top of my to list is to ensure the WIDE site is up to date with resources for staff, faculty and students.
Album: I can’t say that I have a favorite album.

Dreams do come true – dream on baby girl!!
I did Tai Kwon Do for ten years!
Turks and Caicos in the West Indies. When I get away I just like to go to the islands and relax on the beach with a pina colada. Last time I was there was about eight years ago. Hopefully travel will be in a much better place soon as I plan to go back to Jamaica on holiday. I’m just an island girl at heart!
